What Out For Collection Agency Scams

Orange County Collection Scams – Orange County Bankruptcy Lawyer

As an Orange County bankruptcy lawyer, it has been brought to my attention that collection agencies are really taking it to new levels when trying to get you to pay your bills. In fact, one collection agency in Pennsylvania has gotten themselves in big trouble with the state attorney general. Unicredit Collection Agency apparently has been using fake court documents and law enforcement officers in order to intimidate people into paying their bills. Don’t be surprised to see one of these collection scams pop up in Orange County.

The report from the attorney general says that employees of Unicredit were dressing like sheriff’s officers and serving papers that looked like collection lawsuits. They were also serving phony court notices for appearances and debtor exams.

The most unbelievable part of the story is that Unicredit built a courtroom! Yes, a courtroom. They had fake judges and lawyers who would intimidate consumers in to revealing financial information such as bank accounts and car titles.

As an Orange County bankruptcy lawyer, I am appalled at the behavior of this company. Fortunately, the attorney general has shut-down Unicredit and an investigation in underway.

The number one thing that you should learn from this is the following: if you are ever served or mailed documents that even remotely resemble something from a court, call a lawyer! It is amazing to me how many people believe they can just handle matters themselves, even when they are fake. Your lawyer will be able to spot, within seconds, a real document from a fake. Just call an Orange County bankruptcy lawyer. It will be worth it in the long run.
